republicans are about to initiate a government shutdown. i don't get it. they are treating this like it's a football game and they want their "team" to win. yes…in sports, i always want my team to win. but this isn't sports. it's people's lives and income. and (basically) all because they don't want obamacare?
as you may or may not know, republicans have gone on a spending cutting spree. reduced veteran's benefits, reduced money for the needy…yet republicans give an oil company with 48 billion dollars of profits an extra 10 billion dollars in subsidies. i don't get the logic. i'm all for reduced spending, but why rape us with it?
obamacare is certainly not a bulletproof system. something this huge couldn't possibly be flawless at the beginning, but medicare and the like made it over the hurdles just fine…so why can't this, too? some fine-tuning and compromise, perhaps? oh wait…obama and the repubs are too tight-assed on this issue to do something like compromise as decent human beings who disagree.
people are only seeing the propaganda carefully placed on social networks, and something like 74% of america say they don't understand obamacare at all (which i blame both dems and repubs for).
i beg of my republican fb friends to NOT vote republican coming up. repubs need to learn hurting people and partisanship is unacceptable. don't vote for "your team", but rather for what's right for our struggling nation. send a message. as we've all learned, your vote really does matter.
i like to call myself an "objective gun owner", but this seems to be a fear-based campaign by anti-gun people. i mean…concealed weapon permits are ubiquitous and, therefore, are everywhere these people go. why is starbucks the bad guy in this particular paradigm? if someone wants to go in and shoot up the place, then a sign stating "no firearms allowed on premises" isn't going to deter them.
i think their activist stand is misplaced and should be directed at the gun laws themselves. unlike my gun totin' brothers and sisters, i think extremely strict gun laws should be put into place. not as extreme as taking away sane people's guns, but rather a harsh approach at legal gun ownership and over-the-top sentences to those who have illegal guns or sell them illegally. maybe if an illegal gun is used in a crime, then mandatory life in prison (just a suggestion, without much thought).
